WEEK 37

THURSDAY

DANIEL 1-3

HIGHLIGHTS

• Daniel’s Training in Babylon
• Daniel Interprets Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream
• Three Friends in the Fiery Furnace

PROMPTS

Who was the fourth person in the fiery furnace with the three friends?
Why would someone join them there?

NOTES

Daniel was still a teenager when he was deported to Babylon with many others in the Great Exile.  Babylon was extremely polytheistic, worshipping many gods, but Daniel only wanted to worship the God if Israel.  His faithfulness, wisdom, and education enabled King Nebuchadnezzar to say that the God of Israel is God.

The first six chapters are history, and include Daniel in the lions' den; Daniel's friends in the fiery furnace; and the handwriting on the wall.  In Chapter 7, the book makes a turn and becomes prophecy about the future.  Daniel hears from the angel Gabriel, who announced that the exile will last 70 years.  Daniel goes on to prophesy about our future, and things that have not taken place yet.
